Here’s a very quick follow-up to Netbook Linux Adventures from last week.
I gave Crunchbang (#!) Eee version a quick try. Pretty cool distro that ran very nicely on my old Eee. But, ultimately, not what I was after. I’ll be keeping my USB key boot version around though.
True Confession Time: I went back to Windows XP. Yeah, yeah… I know…
Unlike the last time I installed XP on it, I didn’t do an nLite install but did a full XP install instead. Honestly, it doesn’t really use that much more space so definitely the easier way to go.
Here’s a little tip though: If you have an SD card, pull the card before installing XP on one of these. Mine kept insisting that the SD card would be C and the SSD would be D. Not entirely sure why, but that hosed things up since mine has to be mildly overclocked to even read the SD(HC) card (as detailed in “Store Dropbox Data on a Removable Drive”). Long story short, I couldn’t boot. Ended up pulling the card and reloading one more time and now it is all fine.
Not as adventurous as I had planned, but it works just fine for my purposes.
And hey, since I did a full install this time, I’m hoping that USB Modem will work with it now (I had removed too much with the nLite version last time).

O Wise Tech Man – Greetings from Minnesota! This may be a little outside of your “tech” area of interest but have you heard anything good or bad about the pocket video cameras that are oh so handy? I turn 30 this weekend, and we’re taking a mini vacation. Want to get a video camera that’s not bulky and good for hiking, etc.
The tornado pictures on your personal blog were really good – nice!

Turning 30?!? Oh my gosh, the tragedy!
I’m not really up to date on the little video cameras, I’m afraid. But I recall hearing lots of good things about the Flips when they first came out, have you checked those out?

I survived the birthday. Whew!
We got the Flip MinoHD. Love it. Really small. Great picture. Charges when it’s plugged into the computer. It’s all right there.
(In fact, Jeff and I think we are professional interviewers / interviewees now … quite lame. ha.ha.)
