Installing Vista x64 (no service pack)? Have more than 3GB of RAM? Getting a blue screen of death as the installer starts?
I was in that boat earlier tonight. Learned to love the “STOP: 0×0000007E” error. However, pulling out a couple sticks of RAM to get it down to 2GB got the installer working again.
Big thanks to Aaron’s blog which clued me into the idea of pulling some RAM out. I’ll put them back in after I get the service pack(s) installed.

Right, Because Microsoft doesn’t want you to use too much RAM with 64 bit windows??? Weird.
I’m all updated and have service pack 1 on it now (I thought SP2 was out?). Frankly, I’m a bit nervous about putting the RAM back in, but I’ll try that soon…
