This post really doesn’t serve a purpose, but maybe someone who has solved this issue will spot it some day and share…
Reloaded my laptop to 64-bit Windows 7 yesterday (which solved nothing) and found that caused a bit of fallout with my VMware apps – both Workstation and Player. It seem that my “unity mode” no longer works.
With 32-bit Windows I could put a VM into a unity mode and then launch apps from it and watch them appear seamlessly on the host’s desktop.
With 64-bit mode the launched apps never show up on the host desktop. When I switch the client VM out of unity mode there are my launched apps, waiting for me. Unity mode becomes “you can’t see me” or “stealth” mode for the apps. Not necessarily productive!
I found a support forum thread that seems to indicate this may be an issue for combinations of 64-bit Windows and Nvidia cards (I’m running a Nvidia Go 7900 GS). I’d try different video drivers, but no factory drivers exist for my card/OS combo. I’m using whatever Microsoft supplied. And frankly they may not be the issue, I really can’t say.
Certainly not a show-stopper, but since I’m stuck on 3GB of RAM I might just reload back to 32-bit Windows to get it working again.
