Google Sync now Pushing Email

Back in February of this year Google announced Google Sync — push syncing for Calendar and Contacts. I’ve been using it ever since with my Windows Mobile phone and love it but, like most folks, I’ve been hoping for the Email component…

Yesterday, Google announced the addition of push Email support. I visited the little ActiveSync app on my phone, checked the “Email” box and it all magically started working. Great stuff! All my mail now shows up under the “Outlook E-mail” mailbox.

I no longer need IMAP to get my Google Apps email on my phone. In fact, I deleted that Email box on the phone since I was getting everything (eventually) twice.

Downside? My battery life is getting clobbered! Real time mail is great, but I’ll have to switch it back to “scheduled” when I”m going to be away from a battery charger for more than a day or I’ll have a phone in paperweight mode.

From the announcement:

To try Google Sync, visit m.google.com/sync from your computer. If you’re already using Google Sync, learn how to enable Gmail sync. Since push Gmail has been a popular request on our Product Ideas page and Help Forum, we look forward to hearing your feedback, so drop us a line and let us know how it’s working or what you’d like to see next.
