Late last year I was looking for a Windows Mobile utility… without much luck. I wrote:

Perhaps a more interesting utility would be one that changes notification sounds/styles depending up on the time of the day. Sure, keep on getting that email every 10 minutes, but after 7pm just flash the alert light and don’t vibrate or make noise.

When I get a text message during the day I want it to be quiet and unobtrusive. I certainly don’t want it to startle anyone nearby. However, when servers go down in the middle of the night I want that text message alert to be loud enough to wake me up. (or at least wake my wife up who will in turn graciously kick my butt out of bed! Love ya honey!)

Changing the volume and sound configs twice a day just isn’t the answer. I usually forget and I have to confess I’ve slept through a few alerts these past few months…

Last week I asked for help with this quest over at the Super User forums, but didn’t get any responses (and, sadly, hardly any views either). This inspired me to search a little harder and I think I finally found the answer: PhoneWeaver

Use the Profile Manager to define smart profiles that are activated manually or automatically based on time, appointments or phone state. Profiles can control your phone radio, Wi-Fi, push mail, Bluetooth, ringer, vibrate state and more! PhoneWeaver also adds a straightforward plug-in to your Today screen to easily switch profiles, control phone radios and track service counters.

Ran it today and it seems like it is going to be the answer. The “special offer” price of just over $10 isn’t too difficult to swallow either.

Going to run it for the full 12 day trial and see how things go, but I’m cautiously optimistic that this almost one year old quest may soon be concluded.
