I was wrestling with an interesting challenge this week. I guess this is my month to wrestle with overheating laptops, eh? (see “The Case of the Overheating Laptop”. I should probably update that one…). Last time it was a hardware issue. This time? Ultimately, I chased it down to being a driver issue. A clean install I needed to put a new domain controller up at one of our production sites this week. We had an older web server in the dev environment that doesn’t get much use these days so I converted it to a virtual machine (I love VMware Converter!) and then reloaded it with Windows 2003 R2. The install Ubuntu 8.10 release was announced this week. In somewhat related news I got my free license for CrossOver stuff this week too. Seems like it might finally be time for me to switch my home desktop back to Linux. No reason really, but I like the synchronicity of it all. Now I’m pondering: 32bit or 64bit? |
