Here’s an odd little tidbit from earlier this evening. My neighbor stopped by with a computer problem. He had the restore CD for his Dell, but couldn’t seem to get the Dell to want to actually boot from that CD. No matter what he tried or changed in the BIOS, shortly after selecting the CD I’d like to enter the sub-notebook space this fall. I want one of those light-weight and super portable laptops. Sure, I have a great laptop for work, but it is a desktop replacement. Super powerful – and super heavy. The heat-sink fan was getting sluggish and one of the case fans was having a rough time as well. I’ve limped this thing along through a series of cases, motherboards and upgrades for almost 6 years A client ordered themselves a Dell server and dropped it off today to have me set it up as their new domain controller and as their development box for our application(s) at their site. Nice little PowerEdge unit that seems beefy ’nuff to do the job. One major bummer though. It was ordered with a pair I no longer am looking for a battery for a Dell Latitude. Alas, she died this evening — the CPU fan gave up the ghost. I tried some of the magical 3-in-1 oil but no love.
