A few days ago I mentioned I was having some downtime issues here. With a bit of luck and a lot of help, I believe I have it solved. First off, I don't believe it was a plugin causing the issue. It seems to have (indirectly) been WordPress itself! Long story short: A spider/bot was, for some reason, requesting a page Apologies for the downtime during the last 18 hours. Apparently one of the new tag-related plugins I'm trying out is running amuck and using up all of my db connections with very long running queries. I'm working with my host to see if we can figure out which plugin is the issue -- host wants to Glancing at logs, look like we were down for the last 8 or 9 hours. Ouch. There was a planned power outage for 3 hours (2 days notice). Apparently things went a bit awry (and that's being polite). At any rate, things appear to have stabilized now. I've been self-hosting, from home, my web stuff for quite a few years now. I recently decided that I have other things to do besides manage a server. Ok, so when things are going smoothly, managing my own server isn't a big deal... But anyways, I've been looking around at various hosting plans |
