A client had an issue with their HP server last week. They called HP Support hoping for some major hardware exchanges but first were told (paraphrased), “You are way behind on firmware updates – until you update firmware for System BIOS, RAID adapter and hard drives you get no support from us!” (We’d never even Last night I headed downtown to one of my data centers to upgrade a server. The server, an HP DL380 G5 (I usually add some Tim Allen style grunts after saying that) has been running a single quad core CPU since I rolled it out last fall. I’ve had the second CPU “kit” sitting on I learned two important things yesterday: If a production rack server can support two power supplies then get two power supplies If you’re in the Denver area and happen to have a spare 700W power supply for the HP DL36x server series (part number 412211-001) holler! Want At the beginning of the month, I helped my father-in-law pick out a new laptop and then set it up for him. He was way overdue for an upgrade. My folks have also been a bit overdue. Their work horse has been a PIII 450 with (upgraded) 320MB of RAM for quite a few years.
