A few days ago I lamented the fact that my 4GB of RAM was only showing up as three. But hey, I was running a 32-bit OS so wasn’t really surprised. Tonight I reloaded that machine with Windows 7 64-bit. But alas, I have the same problem: I’m very sad. Found a helpful KB article (The system memory [Note: See "64-bit isn't Always the Answer" for updates to this one] I added memory to my laptop today. Went from 2 to 4 GB. Now, I’m running 32-bit Windows 7 so I knew I wouldn’t get all of my 4 GB…I never guessed I’d only get half of it though! Bummer, huh? I might use this I’m a bit disappointed to realize that my trusty (and popular) Quick Firefox Memory tip doesn’t do squat on a Vista machine. What a bummer! I’m looking for alternatives to that tip if anyone knows of any — a 200+ MB browser that never shrinks just ain’t cool. I recently saw mention of an extension called Due to the wonders of scavenging, my daughter is getting a “new” computer today. Nothing exactly modern, but I think she’ll notice the difference — and the home office will likely be a bit cooler too. Her old machine was based around an Athlon Tbird 900 (Asus A7V motherboard) that I built about 7 years ago. I’ve been pondering my browser usage lately, especially as it may (or may not) relate to excess CPU and Memory usage that seems to crop up over time.
