I had to do a factory restore on a Windows XP Tablet PC today. That, in itself, wasn’t all that tough (we’ll ignore the wasted few hours when I mistakenly installed XP Pro [not Tablet] on it…). After the recovery was completed, I ran into an interesting challenge with Microsoft Update though.

If you’re an XP user used to using the /console switch to manage your servers, be aware that going to Service Pack 3 will alter your Remote Desktop options a bit.
Specifically, you’ll now need to use the /admin switch instead.

I just noticed that Windows XP Service Pack 3 is available from Windows Update — or you can download it directly.
I build a lot of machines for both home and work and I’m very excited to finally see this. No more 95 or so patches after an XP SP2 install!
