Win7 Wallpaper Slide Show and Dropbox
I used to love good desktop wallpaper images. However, for years I avoided using images for backgrounds because no matter how cool the image, I would inevitably get tired of it.
Windows 7 has rekindled my use of images with the built-in Desktop background slide show applet. I love this thing! And once I realized I could point it at my own directories full of images I learned to love it even more.
In fact, I dig it so much I’ve taken it to another level. I now have a “wallpaper” directory under my Dropbox folder. Since all my Win7 PCs are running “wide” monitors I have them all pointed over to this directory for the wallpaper slide shows.
Where do I get the majority of my wallpaper? Interfacelift – I love this site and can easily lose an hour at a time randomly clicking around and grabbing more wallpaper. I try to grab stuff at 1920 x 1200 (my highest resolution) as it seems to scale well on the 1680 x1050 monitors as well.
I’m sure I could be doing the same on my XP machines if anyone wants to suggest a free wallpaper randomizer/rotator I’m all ears. Just so easy to do on Win7 since it is (finally) built-in!
Oh, and I’m also always up for suggestions on good and free wallpaper sites.
Animated Wallpapers for More Than Vista Users
According to Mary Jo Foley, it looks like Vista Ultimate users won’t be the only ones with animated desktops.
I’ve got the Dream Gallery bookmarked and will be watching Stardock for the DreamScape 2.0 announcement.
[Thanks for the tip, Nathan]
