Keystone Advisors CMS Conversion
Three years ago we did a site re-design for Keystone Advisors, Inc. They contacted me earlier this year for some content changes and, after some discussion, we determined that this would be a good time to switch things over to a Content Management System (CMS). WordPress, of course.
The site design is a mild customized version of the iDream theme. The sidebar navigation relies on the Flexi Pages navigation widget. This project is the first that I've used that one and I'm quite pleased with how well it works.
Now we have a site in place that the client will be able to modify the content of for himself. We have some little bits here and there to touch up, but opted to push it out live last week to get it out there for folks to enjoy.
Site Conversion to WordPress
This site has been static for too many years – the last redesign was back in 2008!
I’ve converted the Solo Technology site to WordPress and added a bunch of content about some of the projects that I’ve tackled over the past couple years.
As part of the conversion I also did some theme work. This particular theme started life as the free Revolution Code Blue theme. A customized header and a bunch of CSS tweaking and we’re no longer nearly as blue.
While the theme is quite serviceable for here, it has more work ahead before I install it over to the Tech Blog. Stay tuned for that one, updates will include threaded comments and other more “bloggy” bits.
Quick Project: Site Move
Finished a quick project for Scott's Coach Works (subbed under TeamLogic IT - Northwest valley) this week. Didn't have any access to their current hosting provider but needed to move the site. I took care of the site registration, DNS move and successfully pulled over their content to the new host.
GNU Wget makes these sorts of projects pretty straight-forward. The only wrinkle was chasing down some JavaScript files that weren't included directly in the HTML pages.
Autotask Integration
This one was a small web site integration project. I created a PHP form for machineLOGIC that their clients could use to report issues. The form then uses the Autotask "ATES" (add ticket e-mail service) interface to automatically open a trouble-ticket in the Autotask system.
Web Site Audit, Anti-spam Measures
One of the machineLOGIC clients had some concerns about security with their public-facing website. I spent a few hours on this one going through the site's directories and files and ensuring that the permissions were set properly. I then reviewed their forms and made some small adjustments to them to help foil the 'bots that were auto-filling the forms full and generating spam emails to the client. I also went through all files and scripts to ensure there were no hacks and/or additional scripts added (there weren't!).
